Providing a positive, fun, social recreational experience for all ages and abilities is one of the guiding principles of the
Sparks
Parks
and Recreation Department. The Department supports the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and strives to comply with all aspects of the law to provide a barrier free environment. Reasonable accommodations are made in order to facilitate the participation of an individual with a disability.
Per the recommendation of the Sparks Advisory Committee for the Disabled, the Parks and Recreation Department recently developed an Inclusion Guide to provide guidelines and procedures for accommodating participants with disabilities and assisting customers when in need.
One of the key components of the guide is a Customer Concern Procedure for individuals to appeal decisions which would prevent their participation in a program. The appeal process applies to everyone, not just people with disabilities. The manual also outlines a step-by-step process for assessing individuals prior to making a determination about participation. This is done on an individual basis to ensure that accommodations are individualized to each person.
