The mission of the Alcohol and Other Drug Court is to provide defendants with an alternative/therapeutic court approach to sentencing. The goal of the court is to take temporary control of the defendant's life, provide alcohol/drug treatment opportunities, and, enforce accountability, responsibility and employment. All this is done in an effort to prevent a re-offense of alcohol/drug related charges and thereby change individual behavior.
Alcohol and Other Drug Court defendants have been convicted of a criminal misdemeanor and sentenced to jail terms of six months, one year, or longer. The jail term is suspended for up to one to three years on any number of conditions that may be imposed on the defendant by the judge.
